Jerome Ford is taking over the No. 2 running back spot for the Browns this season and could still return kicks with Jakeem Grant's season over.
He had just 12 yards on eight carries but also returned 30 kicks for an average of 24.1 yards per return and a long of 48 yards.
The 5-foot-10, 210 pounder could return kicks again this season -- head coach Kevin Stefanski has ruled it out and said on Thursday he’s comfortable with Ford being both the No. 2 back and the team’s kick returner.Ford’s preseason was derailed by a hamstring injury that kept him out of preseason games and kept him off the practice field until he returned on Tuesday. He dealt with this injury much better than he did an ankle injury last season, managing to stay in a routine and stay ready.
All signs are pointing to Ford returning to the field for the Week 1 matchup with Cincinnati, even if everyone is being coy about it nine days out. That’s when the Browns will see if Ford is the guy they think he can be backing up Chubb.
