Percy Tau of Al Ahly during the FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2022 2nd Round match between Seattle Sounders FC and Al Ahly FC at Stade Ibn-Batouta on February 4, 2023 in Tanger Med, Morocco.Head coach Rulani Mokwena had some high praise for Al Ahly striker and former Mamelodi Sundowns star Percy Tau ahead of the teams' CAF Champions League clash.
Tau endured a frustrating season that saw him miss two months of football action due to a torn muscle injury. However, the 28-year-old attacker endured to action just in time for the start to Al Ahly Club World Cup campaign and has featured in every single game for the African Club of the Century."Percy is playing completely different [at Al Ahly], the last three games, completely different compared to where he played against us," Mokwena said.
"Against us in Cairo he played three different positions in 90 minutes. But a very good player, one of our best exports and I don’t speak to much about him. Firstly, because he is not a Mamelodi Sundowns player so I’ve got to have a lot of respect by what I say and how I speak about players that are not my players.
"Secondly, maybe because I’m a little bit biased in my opinion about Percy, so I try not to say too much so I will leave it at that."Mokwena will meet his former apprentice for the second time this season after Sundowns and Al Ahly played to a 2-2 draw at the end of February. The two African giants are set to go head-to-head on Saturday in a Group B stage CAF Champions League fixture. Al Hilal’s win over Coton Sport on Tuesday means Sundowns and Al Ahly now sit second and third place on the group respectively.
