The incident took place during the Blackpool RUFC v Chorley RUFC game on September 16.
The victim was punched in the face and suffered a fractured eye socket. Now, police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with mobile phone footage to come forward.A spokesperson for the force said: "We are appealing for witnesses and mobile phone footage after a player was assaulted during a rugby match. It happened during the Blackpool RUFC v Chorley RUFC game played at Blackpool’s Fleetwood Road ground on Saturday 16th September 2023.
"The victim, who was playing for Chorley at the time, was punched in the face and suffered a fractured eye socket. We are asking for witnesses – in particular spectators at that game – to come forward. We also want to hear from anyone who might have been filming the match on their phone."
