The former British & Irish Lions captain is embarking on an educational tour
Rugby legend Gareth Thomas has spoken to students at the University of Manchester in a bid to increase awareness and debunk myths around HIV.
Recent studies have shown that fewer than half of 18-24-year-olds said they would consider taking an STI or HIV test as they didn’t think they were at risk. That only served to reinforce Thomas’ commitment to ensure that the correct information is widely known. “At that age, people feel they are kind of invincible. Obviously a lot of these students are sporting, when you are fit and healthy and active, you don’t think of it as something you have to deal with. So to get them to see that stat and to realise the importance of testing, if they are sexually active, they could get tests on the bus, it was really pleasing to see.”
