The CWU is seeking a pay rise for its members in line with the rate of inflation and says it must come with no strings attached to it.

The union representing 115,000 postal workers at Royal Mail has begun a vote that could lead to strikes in a bitter row over pay and jobs.

The Communication Workers Union , which is also involved in pay disputes at BT and the Post Office amid the widespread union scramble for awards in line with soaring inflation, is sending out ballot papers after rejecting the company's offer. Its deputy general secretary, Terry Pullinger, said ahead of the move:"The company has imposed 2% pay award, miles away from where inflation is, totally inadequate."
