A Royal Caribbean passenger died after being restrained by security on a cruise ship departing from San Pedro, California, en route to Ensenada, Mexico. Christifer Mikhail, a passenger on board, reported that a drunken man began terrorizing others, threatening to kill them, and chasing passengers down a hallway. Cell phone footage showed the man attempting to kick down a door and engaging in a racial tirade. Mikhail stated that a crew member was assaulted by the man.
Security eventually apprehended the man using zip ties and handcuffs. He died shortly after being detained. The passenger's family, who is planning his funeral, says he was a father to a child with autism and was engaged. Royal Caribbean confirmed the passenger's death and expressed condolences to his family, stating they are cooperating with authorities
