The bridge had closed in the spring for work that included measures to improve “ridge quality” across the bridge and enhance safety by “improving sight distance.” The $4 million project, PennDOT said, “involved partial removal of the existing structure, building its replacement, approach paving, and drainage improvements. Also included were water and sewer line replacements, sidewalk and guide rail replacement, pavement markings, and miscellaneous construction.”Flaggers were used to help ease traffic congestion for Pa. Speedweek events atPennDOT had hoped to have the bridge opened on Sept. 1, before the fair started.
