'The girls who attended have all been saying when it's the next one they enjoyed it so much'
Hot on the heels of the Lionesses’ stunning performance on the world football stage, an event to encourage girls to try the sport was held in Rossendale.
School Games Organiser for Rossendale Nathan Bibby, a team of girl sports leaders from The Valley and members of Haslingden Girls and Ladies Football Club ran the event. Half of the teams took part in a friendly tournament on grass while the rest learnt footballing skills and then the schools switched so everyone took part in matches. Most teams made flags to represent their country, but the students from Thorn Primary School went the extra mile creating Canadian themed kits.
Maisie assisted skills coaching. She said: “I helped them to learn passing, shooting and defending skills and most of the girls had not played football before. Those I was helping, improved and they were having fun.”
