EastEnders Ross Kemp pulled out of trip on Titanic submarine over safety fears

Former EastEnders actor turned adventure documentary maker Ross Kemp just revealed that he almost made a TV show diving down to the Titanic wreckage in a submersible owned by OceanGate. This revelation follows the tragic news announced on Thursday that the five passengers aboard the Titan sub - which was owned by diving company OceanGate - had perished during their recent expedition.

In terms of daredevil Ross, who has made plenty of other nail-biting diving documentaries, the decision to go ahead with the Titanic exploration was called off by the production company behind his other shows. According to them, they deemed it unsafe for anybody to enter the vessel after they conducted their own safety tests.

“Their team checked out this OceanGate submersible and pulled out of using it, as it was simply not considered safe or fit for purpose,” Professor Jonathan Shalit, InterTalent boss and Ross’ agent said. “They found other sub dives which have been safe and successful, but by that point Ross was so busy with all his TV shows that he was unable to commit the time."

Should the show have gone ahead, the 58 year old would have headed to the depths of the ocean to explore probably the most famous wreckage in history, located about 350 miles from Newfoundland, Canada. Apparently, it was set to film last year with a release date of the summer of the same year.

According to a former Royal Navy submarine captain, Ryan Ramsey, the vessel suffered a “catastrophic implosion” that could have been caused by two things: a defect in the pressure hull or a failure of the hatch with bolts that was used to seal the crew in.
