Levon Hawke is the latest addition to Celine’s “Portrait of” series. In new photos shot by Hedi Slimane and titled “Portrait of an Actor,” the son of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman wanders the streets of New York City. The simple yet powerful black-and-white imagery depicts Hawke lying on a roof, strumming a guitar, and bundling up in a jean jacket. The clothing consists of all the classics—a pair of jeans, a white tank top, a pinstripe suit.
, to star in the campaign for their Cage Chain Link collection, a capsule comprised of handbags, jewelry, and ready-to-wear covered in Italian-made chains., the model and artist swings from a leather seat, hung up by silver chains while crying tears made of the campaign’s titular material. Other shots show Leon in a bikini made of the collection’s bags—and one of the 26-year-old getting in on some creative work herself: sitting naked at a desk, chains decorating her workspace.
The location is especially significant as it is currently under construction, soon to be reestablished as Balenciaga’s headquarters. For now, the setting made for the perfect backdrop for the brand’s winter 2023 campaign, providing a contrast between the clothing and the surrounding construction, allowing for “an ironic point of comparison.
