Rosario Dawson says she's committed to playing Ahsoka Tano for as long as StarWars will have her.
Rosario Dawson talks about Ahsoka Tano's future in Star Wars. The actress brought the fan-favorite Togruta to live-action in The Mandalorian season 2 after primarily existing in the animated pocket of the franchise.
Now, she is set to headline her own series on Disney+, spearheaded by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Originally introduced in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated feature film which was set after Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones, Ahsoka continued her story in The Clone Wars series and Star Wars Rebels, where she's revealed to be one of the Rebellion's anonymous informants using the codename Fulcrum. The Padawan of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka has important ties to the Skywalker family — something that was highlighted during her first on-screen interaction with Luke Skywalker in The Book of Boba Fett. In Ahsoka, the character has her own mission, however, hunting down Grand Admiral Thrawn and locating the missing Jedi Knight, Ezra Bridger. As one of the significant players in Star Wars' continued expansion through streaming content, Dawson appeared in a special Vanity Fair issue where she addresses what lies ahead for her character in the franchise. The actress is incredibly hopeful that she will be able to continue playing the character, emphasizing her commitment to the role. Read the related excerpt from the magazine below: “[I was cast] not just because I’m the right age, not just because I had the right look for it, but [because] I’m known for being incredibly committed. That offer, they knew, could resonate with someone like me. I’m in this industry for the long haul. I’m in for this type of storytelling that matters. [...] As long as they want me, and as long as it’s possible, I’m in it.” After the events of Star Wars Rebels, Ahsoka went on a mission to locate Ezra with Sabine Wren. However, by the time she makes her debut in The Mandalorian, she is no longer with the Mandalorian member of the Ghost crew, raising questions as to what happened to her. It's likely that this question will be answered in the upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ series. While Lucasfilm's upcoming project, Obi-Wan Kenobi, is confirmed to be a limited series, Ahsoka could follow in The Mandalorian's footsteps instead by having multiple seasons. It's no secret that Filoni has a soft spot for the character and, given the chance, he would want to be able to continue fleshing out her story in live-action. Lucasfilm veering away from the Skywalker Saga and developing projects set in the past instead of continuing the sequels' stories allows them to further delve into Ahsoka Tano's arc. Her missions don't even need to have massive galactic repercussions; instead, they could be smaller stories that focus on the character. Either way, Ahsoka will be a great way to diversify Star Wars' storytelling without totally severing ties with the Skywalkers.
