Free agency could open a spot in the Philadelphia Eagles’ lineup at linebacker in 2026.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jihaad Campbell breaks up a pass to Dallas Cowboys tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford during an NFL game on Sept. 4, 2025, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.in the NFL Draft on April 24.

The rookie started the season-opening game because Dean couldn’t play, and Campbell stayed in the lineup for the next seven games.Dean eventually reclaimed his starting spot when he recovered from the knee injury. In 2026, he might not be coming back. Dean has reached the end of the rookie contract signed as a third-round draft pick from Georgia in 2022, opening the possibility that he could leave Philadelphia as an unrestricted free agent in March.of his offseason plans to prepare for his second NFL campaign, “and really do what I have to do to be the best absolute version of myself so when I come back I’m making sure that I’m staying on top of everything that I have to do.”Campbell’s playing time took a dip when he left the starting lineup. Although he returned to the starting lineup for the final two games of the regular season, Campbell played fewer than 20 defensive snaps in five games, including ain a Wild-Card Weekend game on Jan. 11. Philadelphia won one of those games. When Campbell played 20 or more defensive snaps, the Eagles had a 10-3 record.for the 2025 season. Campbell had 80 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, three pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, and he ended up playing the sixth-most defensive snaps on the team with 710.of his rookie-season transition. “Like, especially a first-round rookie. It’s not like, ‘Yeah, I got time to just sit the bench and relax.’ Like, no, it’s time to actually work. It’s time to learn. It’s time to grow, like, right now. And it’s no shortcuts to it. It’s all about continuous improvement each and every day, and just wanting to be better, the best version of yourself each and every day.” Even if Dean returns to the Eagles in 2026, Campbell might still earn a starting spot at outside linebacker, a position he also appeared in as a rookie., “and being able to be a great utilization in the scheme wherever they want me to be at whether that’s inside linebacker, outside linebacker. Just making sure that I’m on top of my things and just having continuous improvement.” Philadelphia will pair Campbell or Dean with Zack Baun at linebacker in 2026. Baun earned Pro Bowl recognition for the second straight season in 2025 after being a first-team All-Pro in 2024.of Baun, “in the run game and blitzes and in the passing game or really just being a baller, being an absolute person who knows football in general. I feel like it’s hard to come around guys that really know football and really can dissect it in the way of a simple format, and that’s what he does. And that’s why he’s one of the best linebackers in the world.”Former All-Pro from Alabama released for second time in 21 days “I’m really, really blessed and really honored and really grateful just to be here,” Campbell said, “be among this great organization that’s here.”The 2025 season is the 12th that Mark Inabinett has covered players with Alabama football roots in the NFL. Inabinett's byline appeared in a newspaper for the first time in 1976. The intervening years have...
