Republican Sen. Mitt Romney said he would consider and vote on a Supreme Court nominee from President Trump, likely cementing the Senate’s ability to proceed this year
WASHINGTON—Democrats’ hopes of blocking President Trump’s expected Supreme Court nominee evaporated Tuesday, after Sen. Mitt Romney said he would support Republican efforts to quickly confirm a successor to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The announcement came as Senate Republicans prepared to gather for the first time since Justice Ginsburg’s death to discuss how to proceed on Mr. Trump’s expected pick, which he said he will announce on Saturday.
