Speaking at a Washington Post forum on climate change and the prospects for bipartisan cooperation that was broadcast on CSPAN2, Romney was asked by the Post's Leigh Ann Caldwell if he would support Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

“Look, I voted to remove him from office twice,” Romney said, to laughter, in reference to his votes to impeach and convict the former president. In January 2020, Romney was the only Republican senator to join Democrats in voting to convict Trump for abuse of power, the first article in his first impeachment trial, after Trump withheld congressionally approved aid to Ukraine. Trump was trying to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy into opening an investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of Joe Biden, whose presidential campaign Trump wanted to undermine.
