Protesters rally for abortion rights in Birmingham after downfall of Roe v. WadeAlabamians woke up Saturday in a state where almost all abortions were newly illegal.
About 400 people — with dozens more joining — gathered for speeches, chants and short songs Saturday evening in Linn Park in Birmingham. A group of speakers addressed the crowd before leading a short march around the park.“I came out because I actually have had an abortion, so I am physically the embodiment of how that has helped women since Roe v. Wade,” said attendee Emilia Hairston. “Without that abortion, I would not have been able to have the child that I now have.
“It saved my life,” Hairston said of her abortion. “You know, it is a complex thing, but it is health care. And I believe that everybody should be entitled to that life that I am now living.”on Saturday, June 25, 2022
