Rodney Quinn Rupe set up his own company, Ex Xo Exteriors LTD, then used his IRS access to give the company an official Employer Identification Number. Prosecutors say he then accessed an IRS database and reassigned $2,021,986.40 in tax credits from ExxonMobil’s account to his company’s. He then applied the tax credits to his company’s 2019 account, which led to the IRS issuing a refund of $2,100,377.38 — the amount of the credits plus interest.Prosecutors say Mr. Rupe, 46, tried to deposit the check at several banks earlier this year.
He is charged with wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud and theft of government property. He has an initial hearing scheduled for July 3.Kelly Sadler
