Rockwall police say they believe a man accused of sexually assaulting a child may be responsible for additional crimes dating back to the early 1980s.William Royce Bynum, 64, was booked into the Rockwall County jail March 4 and faces six counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, three counts of indecency with a child and two counts of displaying harmful material to a minor, according to jail records. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
Rockwall police say they began investigating Feb. 28 after someone reported a sexual assault, and arrested Bynum as a result. Police said that during the investigation they identified several additional people believed to have been victimized by Bynum when they were children. Authorities are now hoping to identify any additional victims. Police said Bynum has lived in Quinlan and Channelview, along with Birmingham, Ala., and Lawton, Okla. He remains in custody with bail set at more than $1.1 million.
