Rockies hitting coach Dave Magadan was let go and third base/infield coach Stu Cole has been “reassigned to a minor league staff position,” according to a news release from the team.
Colorado didn’t fare any better under Magadan than Espy. The Rockies set franchise single-season lows in batting average , on-base percentage , slugging percentage and runs per game . This past season they also had the fewest average number of home runs per game since their inaugural season in the league .
Additionally, Colorado announced the members of the coaching staff who will return, including manager Bud Black, bullpen coach Reid Cornelius, first base coach Ron Gideon, assistant hitting coaches Andy González and P.J. Pilittere, bench coach Mike Redmond and pitching coach Darryl Scott. Black, 65, enters his seventh season as the team’s manager. He has a 417-453 record with two playoff appearances.
