When LoDo’s silver linings are shining, it’s easy to forget about playoff droughts, divisional cellars and the prospect of 100 losses, and just enjoy a prime Denver summer night at a beautiful ballpark.

In doing so, Tovar, Jones and Lawrence helped atone for a 5-0 blanking in Tuesday’s series opener and for Kyle Freeland’s implosion earlier in the game when the Dodgers scored six runs with two outs. Freeland stomped angrily around the mound and pitching coach Darryl Scott went out to visit with him. After the chat, things went from bad to worse when Yonny Hernandez singled in the second pitch of his at-bat, scoring two runs.

But Colorado got to the Dodger bullpen in the sixth, with Jurickson Profar’s RBI walk and Elias Diaz’s RBI single bookending Tovar’s clutch triple to swing the lead back to the home team. After an up-and-down start offensively, the prized rookie shortstop continues to settle in at the dish. He was hitting .328 in his previous 30 games coming into Wednesday, when he finished 2 for 4 with a walk.

As Tovar continues to assert himself as the club’s shortstop of the future, and Lawrence is putting up a career season while riding his sweeper to becoming one of the fast-rising bullpen arms in the National League, Jones’ outfield assist also ended up being critical in the one-run victory. Jones continued his breakout month after coming to Colorado via an offseason trade with Cleveland in exchange for minor-league infielder Juan Brito.
