Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. warms up with the team before taking on Miami Heat at the Toyota Center on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022 in Houston. For five minutes, the Rockets defense was everything it could be and needed to be. It was also all the things it was not through most of the game, pushing the Rockets to the brink.

“Kind of frustrating because we know we should have started the game better, should have come out with more energy, more sense of urgency,” Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr., who had 15 points and 11 rebounds, said. “But we’ll learn from it."With Thursday’s five-minute shutout, the Rockets have the top-rated defense in clutch situations in the NBA.

“Definitely encouraging to give the fight that we gave at the end of the game,” Rockets coach Stephen Silas said. “Our late-game defense has been really solid this season.
