Rock Tech Lithium Inc. and SCHWENK Zement GmbH & Co. KG collaborate to utilize lithium by-products as cement additives, reducing carbon emissions and creating a new revenue stream.

Rock Tech Lithium Inc. has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SCHWENK Zement GmbH & Co. KG, a leading German cement manufacturer, to utilize lithium by-products from Rock Tech's Guben Converter in Schwenk's cement production process. This innovative partnership aims to deliver significant environmental and economic benefits by reducing carbon emissions and establishing a new revenue stream for Rock Tech.

The collaboration aligns with the German government's National Circular Economy Strategy, which promotes the use of industrial by-products in cement manufacturing.Rock Tech will sell its lithium production by-products, specifically leach residues, to Schwenk. These residues, initially studied by the Institute of Technologies and Economics of Lithium (ITEL), have shown potential as Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) in cement production. The utilization of these residues offers several advantages: creating a new revenue stream for Rock Tech, lowering Schwenk's carbon emissions by reducing reliance on traditional SCMs sourced from coal-based energy production, and minimizing Rock Tech's operational expenditures by reducing transportation and disposal costs associated with the leach residues.Upon the successful operation of Rock Tech's Guben Converter, Schwenk plans to invest in state-of-the-art facilities for drying, grinding, and storing the lithium leach residues. By 2029, Schwenk aims to process up to 200,000 tonnes of these by-products annually, contributing to Rock Tech's goal of achieving zero-waste operations. Both parties will collaborate to secure relevant certifications, including REACH compliance and approvals from the German Institute for Construction Technology (DIBt), to facilitate the widespread adoption of this innovative approach.
