Rochester police executed seven high-risk search warrants, leading to the seizure of a substantial amount of drugs, firearms, and cash. Nine suspects were arrested and charged with various drug and weapons offenses.
SWAT teams were among those that executed seven high-risk search warrants Wednesday at locations in the city and the town of Greece. Rochester Police Chief David Smith said all nine suspects were charged with various counts of criminal possession of a weapon and felony drug charges. After a year-long investigation, a search warrant was drafted after authorities obtained surveillance that showed three locations in Monroe County where drugs and illegal firearms were stored.
The announcement came as Smith and Mayor Malik Evans met with reporters Friday to discuss the city's latest public safety developments for January. 'A significant amount of drugs, guns, and money being seized from individuals that thought that they could continue to wreak havoc and cause damage across the city,' said Evans. 'A high-risk search warrant is defined by a search warrant where we utilize the SWAT team due to several factors which make the danger the more high risk,' Smith said. Members of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and Rochester Police Department Special Investigation Section executed those search warrants. According to the criminal complaint, three locations identified were Shadowbrook Drive, and Depew and Austin streets. At those locations, authorities reported seizing nearly 4 pounds of cocaine, nearly 4 grams of fentanyl, and 12 firearms — which Smith said most, if not all, were loaded — along with a gun suppressor, body armor, and more than $177,000 in cash.
