The Rochester City School District has named a temporary replacement for superintendent Carmine Peluso, who is leaving this summer.
Demario Strickland is set to become interim superintendent of the Rochester City School District on July 1, 2024, replacing Carmine Peluso . Strickland has served as RCSD's deputy superintendent of teaching and learning since last March.
The district announced Thursday it has appointed Demario Strickland as interim superintendent, effective July 1.“My steadfast commitment is to teaching and learning" Strickland said in a statement released Thursday. "Educational excellence serves as a beacon of hope for every learner within our community.
The district says Strickland has "gained the respect of his colleagues, understands the work deeply, and remains unwaveringly focused on improving student outcomes." “With his extensive background and proven leadership, we are confident he will guide us through this transitional period with grace and effectiveness, ensuring continued success for our students and community," said Rochester City School Board President Cynthia Elliott.
Strickland, who started his career as an elementary school teacher, also previously served as principal for the Buffalo City School District and dean of students for the New York City Department of Education.
