The Rochester City School Board voted Thursday night to move forward with a reconfiguration plan that will close 11 schools next school year.

Five board members voted "yes" in favor of the plan and two, commissioners James Patterson and Camille Simmons, voted "no" against it. "I think the detriment is that you're going to have neighborhood students have to take a lottery and get bussed out of the neighborhood where some of them can just walk across the street to school," said Alex Johnson, a substitute teacher.
