East Central School Foundation surprises East Central ISD teachers who applied for Leroy Smith Teacher Mini-Grants with jumbo checks.
The ' Prize Patrol ' had a job to do at East Central Independent School District. Board members of the district's nonprofit arm, the East Central School Foundation , went around to unsuspecting teachers with larger-than-life checks informing them they had been awarded a Leroy Smith Teacher Mini-Grant after a competitive application process. 'My reaction was shock and excitement,' said engineering and robotics teacher Donald Lacy , whose students found out the good news with him.
She received funding for a second year for a curriculum called '2 Words Character Development,' which includes workshops, videos, messages and parent portals to promote students' development. The grant money will also fund new uniforms for the growing mariachi program and the Harmony Elementary Archery Club. It will buy a plasma cutting machine, a freshwater aquarium and more.
