New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft discusses former President Donald Trump's attendance at Super Bowl LIX, revealing their past friendship and distancing himself from Trump after January 6th, 2021. Kraft also praises Tom Brady's debut as a commentator for Fox's Super Bowl broadcast.
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is attending Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, where he will be reunited with his old friend, former President Donald Trump . This marks the first time a sitting president has attended the Super Bowl . Kraft shared his thoughts on Trump's presence in an interview with Fox News Digital, stating, 'It just shows you that maybe the NFL and the Super Bowl are important if we got the president of the United States coming as a guest.
' Kraft has openly discussed his past donations to Trump, revealing during an October appearance on 'The Breakfast Club' that he contributed to his inauguration. He recounted meeting Trump in the 1990s during his frequent trips to Florida and noted Trump's support following the death of his wife 13 years ago. Kraft acknowledged making a significant donation to Trump's inauguration but expressed disbelief at the time, comparing it to 'having someone who was a drunk fraternity brother become president of the United States.' However, Kraft stated that he distanced himself from Trump after the events of January 6, 2021, saying, 'I will say this, I was very upset (with) what happened January 6. And I haven’t talked to him since then.'The Patriots organization has also taken steps to distance itself from Trump. In May 2021, they vehemently denied allegations that Kraft and Trump had attempted to bribe a U.S. senator to cease an investigation into a cheating scandal involving the team. According to an ESPN report, Trump allegedly met with Senator Arlen Specter in 2008 and offered him 'money in Palm Beach' in exchange for dropping his investigation into the Spygate scandal, where the Patriots were penalized by the NFL for filming a rival team's coaching signals. Trump, who was not yet involved in politics and was known for his reality TV show 'The Apprentice,' purportedly acted on behalf of Kraft, a claim refuted by both Trump's associates and the Patriots organization. Kraft's spokesperson told ESPN, 'Mr Kraft is not aware of any involvement of Trump on this topic, and he did not have any other engagement with Specter or his staff.'Despite the past controversies, Kraft will be joined at the Super Bowl by another prominent figure with a connection to both the Patriots and Trump: Tom Brady. Brady, who recently retired from playing, will be making his debut as a color commentator for Fox's Super Bowl broadcast. Kraft praised Brady's broadcasting skills, stating, 'I think the way he has presented the nuances of the game, things that fans would never see, is truly special and unique, and Fox was brilliant to attract him.'Brady's commentary has already drawn attention for its insightful observations. During a crucial moment in the Washington Commanders' NFC divisional-round victory over the Detroit Lions, Brady pointed out that the Lions had 12 men on the field, resulting in a penalty that ultimately contributed to the Commanders' win. His astute commentary on social media was widely praised
