shot and killed by Fullerton police in February
The shooting occurred after a short pursuit that started in Fullerton about 1 a.m. on Feb. 10 and ended with a crash at Beach Boulevard and Imperial Highway in La Habra. When officers spotted him, body-worn camera shows, Heiselman took a shooting stance, with his hands clasped and extended toward officers, and his head tilted behind his hands as if aiming a weapon. At least one officer opened fire in response as a K9 unit approached.
The California Attorney General’s Office announced later that day it was investigating the officer-involved shooting because it considered Heiselman unarmed. When asked if he was armed, Heiselman’s father says in the call included in the video released by police, “Not that I know of.”
