Former U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, a Cincinnati native, has cast a long shadow over American politics for three decades – seven terms as a U.S. representative, two years as U.S. Trade Representative, a year as director of the Office of Management and Budget and two terms in the U.S. Senate. His legacy includes more than 30 trade agreements and 228 bipartisan bills signed into law by three U.S. presidents, including the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. He routinely numbered among the most bipartisan senators in independent rankings from the Lugar Center and Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
Now, in addition to serving on the corporate boards of Procter & Gamble and the Bechtel Corp., Portman is mentoring UC students and helping to build a $5 million endowment at the Portman Center for Policy Solutions in the School of Public and International Affairs .
