The elephant-shaped building in Roanoke, Ala., as it looked in 2014 after years of abandonment. It has been restored and opened as a coffee shop.
“We love it so much and the community is stoked,” Cox said. “We’re getting tons and tons of stories about people coming here as kids when it was a gas station.” But why does this crudely shaped elephant even exist? It once housed a service station, but it didn’t start life as an elephant.
