Road's collapse cuts off residents from rest of town in Santa Cruz County.
People living in the small community of Corralitos in Santa Cruz County were cut off from their neighbors after hard rains from the last storm washed away part of the key roadway. In the small community of Corralitos, Redwood Road goes from a way out, to a dead-end in the 100 block.
A local contractor, Tuesday, hauled in truckloads of boulders to fill the large gap in the roadway. Each stone, weighing approximately 4,000 lbs., is placed meticulously into the breach. Then, fill material will be added. The goal is to create a drivable foundation to allow vehicular access. "We’ve had unprecedented wind, rain, landslides, trees coming down on our lines. So, just a number of issues," said PG&E Regional Vice President Teresa Alvarado. "But we are responding to any issue that is a hazard."While street and utility repair work continues, some residents have been forced to live a camper’s lifestyle.
