PETALING JAYA: As much as RM5.5mil has been lost to face mask sales scams during the movement control order (MCO) period, says Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said from March 18 until June 3, the police had opened 527 investigation papers regarding face mask scams, which chalked up an estimated RM5.5mil in losses."The states that recorded the highest number of IPs were Selangor at 122, Johor at 68 and Penang, also at 68," he said during his daily briefings on Thursday .

Police have so far arrested 181 individuals and from this, 53 were already charged in court, said Ismail Sabri. He reminded Malaysians to be careful when making online purchases, to avoid suspicious websites, and to always check on reviews and comments left by other buyers.He added that face masks were now available at stores and pharmacies at affordable prices.
