President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Friday urged Filipinos to continue to embody the ideals and virtues of patriotism and perseverance of Dr. Jose Rizal, the country's national hero.

"As we cap this year by honoring the legacy that Rizal has left for our country, may we continue to embody the virtues of excellence, patriotism, and perseverance that he exhibited throughout his life," Marcos said in his Rizal Day message. In his message, the President also said he is hoping Rizal's determination to achieve real change will empower the Filipinos of today to become vigilant of social ills.

Marcos acknowledged Rizal's role in enlightening Filipinos about the injustices, corruption, and oppression that the Philippines experienced from colonizers.
