Two men were arrested for allegedly operating an illegal cockfighting ring in Riverside County. Deputies discovered a fighting ring, numerous live roosters, and several firearms on the property.
Two men from Riverside County were arrested for allegedly operating an illegal cockfighting ring. On Saturday morning, deputies responded to a report of cockfighting occurring at a property in Yucaipa. Upon arrival, they encountered approximately 50 vehicles attempting to flee the scene. A deputy narrowly avoided being struck by a fleeing vehicle, leading to a pursuit that ended in the arrest of the driver and three passengers. Six live roosters were discovered in the vehicle.
The driver, identified as 33-year-old Jose Luis Adame from Riverside, was arrested, and his vehicle was impounded. At the property, deputies detained 33 individuals identified as spectators. A fighting ring equipped with a scoreboard and steel talons was found alongside approximately 250 roosters. An aerial unit spotted a person hiding in a truck at the rear of the property, leading to the arrest of 35-year-old Carlos Romero from Perris. Romero had seven live roosters in boxes inside the truck. He was also found in possession of a large sum of U.S. currency and a concealed Ruger semi-automatic handgun. A search warrant revealed additional steel talons and two dozen firearms inside a safe on the property.Yucaipa City Code Enforcement issued red tags to several buildings on the property, while San Bernardino County Animal Control discovered 17 dead roosters, eight live roosters, and 61 boxed roosters.
