Tune in for today's latest news stories on KXDF CBS News 13 at 5pm.FAIRBANKS, Alaska - As the rains stay with us, the rivers forecasted to see some rise which brings increased dangers to those in the water.
While some folks would shy away from water excursion amid rainy weather, avid anglers and competitive paddlers may find themselves on the river regardless. Upcoming rain storms are not forecasted to cause any floods but any increase to the water level which is likely will create a more dangerous water way. This includes faster waters and colder temperatures could mean colder waters as well increasing the risk of hypothermia. To avoid drowning, any boaters or paddle boarders should wear a life preserver at all times while on the water. Those with large enough boats are recommended to carry a throwable floatation device as a precaution as well. Despite a lack of lightning in the forecast, boaters should also keep an eye on condition before taking to the water as conditions could change. The risk of lightning strikes to bodies of water or boat could be catastrophic, potentially resulting in fire or other damage including the risk of injury or death. The last two being increasingly applicable for those swimming in rivers or lakes.Copyright 2024 KTVF. All rights reserved.
