The advent of the #MeToo movement in 2017 pushed Osei to create 225 Film Club as a response to the lack of industry support for women. She christened it 225 in homage to the number of female directors that were accidentally brought together due to an email error —including Osei herself. Given access to so many talented filmmakers in one go, Osei decided to create a space where these creatives could come together and be raised up by both peers and mentors.
“The statistics tell a sad tale of too few opportunities afforded to female directors in comparison to their male counterparts,” Osei says, “but there is also a bubbling of brilliant work, ready to burst into the mainstream.”Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations. We want our readers to share their views and exchange ideas and facts in a safe space.
