A Conservative MP has questioned why Liz Truss is holding a final cabinet meeting - scheduled for 9am before she goes to meet the King and delivers her farewell statement at the Number 10 podium.
The same was said before Liz Truss appointed her cabinet just a few weeks ago - before she excluded almost everyone who had backed Mr Sunak. Asked what mandate Mr Sunak had to govern, Ms Atkins said the new PM had said he would"stick to the 2019 manifesto".MPs are today set to debate a bill which - if it became law - would remove all EU-derived or retained legislation by the end of 2023 from the UK.It is not clear if Rishi Sunak will continue with the progress of the bill in its current state.
With his victory coming on Diwali, Mr Sunak will be the UK's first Hindu prime minister, the first of Asian heritage, and the youngest for more than 200 years at the age of 42.
