Satellite monitors show a surge in dangerous pollution is hitting the UK amid record heat

Cities including Nottingham, Preston and Norwich suffered spikes in ozone pollution on Monday and levels are expected to climb again as the hot weather continues.

It is most likely to form during hot, sunny days in urban areas. When breathed in, it can trigger asthma attacks, aggravate lung diseases, and spark coughing fits.Copernicus, the European Union’s satellite monitoring service, has been tracking a surge in ozone pollution across southern Europe since the start of the heatwave. In Portugal, Spain and Italy it reached “unhealthy levels” earlier this week, Copernicus said.
