Millions of people across North, Central and South America are about to be treated to a solar eclipse nicknamed “the ring of fire.”In the U.S., the eclipse begins at 9:13 a.m. PT in Oregon and ends in Texas at 12:03 p.m. CT. The path continues on a southwest trajectory through Central and South America.Weather permitting, people in the eclipse’s path will see around 90% of the sun obscured by the moon.

The sky gets darker, but not as much as it would during a total solar eclipse, when the sun is fully obscured.“There’s really a dramatic impact here still on Earth,” Black said of an annular eclipse. “It's like a massive shadow went over the surface of the sun. So it's still a phenomenon that is absolutely worth experiencing.”Experts said it’s extremely important to not look directly at the sun during an eclipse.
