SAN ANTONIO - After recovering from a separated shoulder injury, Riley Minix was finally able to take the floor in Las Vegas for his Spurs debut against the New Orleans Pelicans. Minix, a skilled hopeful from Morehead State, signed a Summer League contract with the Spurs weeks ago.
In twenty minutes of action, Minix scored 16 points, dished 4 assists and shot 55% from the floor - and helped secure the Spurs’ win streak.Minix, a 6’ 8,” 230 pound forward, has drawn attention because he is a tough shot-maker and impactful defender. In college, he averaged 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while shooting 54% from the field, 35% from beyond the arc, and 84% from the free-throw line.Minix’s high character and work ethic have been evident throughout his journey.
Since re-signing Charles Bassey and Sandro Mamukelashvili on Tuesday, the Spurs are now at 15 players under contract, but if Minix continues to play at the level which was on display during his debut, he could become a strong candidate for one of the team’s available two-way contracts.
