Right-wing populism is becoming the mainstream in Europe, as Italy's new government shows 🇮🇹 🇸🇪 Elections in Italy and Sweden have seen far-right parties increase their vote share
This comes only weeks after the Sweden Democrats, a far-right anti-immigration party,in the Scandinavian country’s elections on Sunday 11 September.
Projections based on votes counted from some two-thirds of polling stations showed the Brothers of Italy ahead of other contenders in Sunday’s election, with 25.7 per cent of the votes, up from only 4 per cent in the last election in 2018. Similarly, the Sweden Democrats expanded its vote share from 5.7 per cent in 2010, when it made its electoral breakthrough on a national level, to 20.5 per cent this year.
