A $16 billion cost blowout has been identified in the Suburban Rail Loop with the Victorian government and opposition fighting over what it means for the project.
Opposition Leader John Pesutto this month sought updated costings from the Parliamentary Budget Office for the east and north sections of the Melbourne rail loop.
"The Liberals have asked the PBO the same dodgy question they asked in 2022 in order to have the same deliberately misleading answer. "I mean it's just ridiculous. It's like being asked well what's the cost of a house and you have to include 50 years of bills, three major renos and a lifetime of expenditure at Bunnings. It is just laughable."
"The PBO makes it very clear that the costings for SRL east are within the range the government has provided, that is between $30 and $34.5 billion," Mr Pearson said.
