Although the MLB at Rickwood event has come and gone, the staff from AL.com shared their thoughts on the event.

As a week of tributes to the legacy of the Negro Leagues, baseball in Birmingham, and the iconic Willie Mays unfolded, Birmingham, AL was the center of the baseball world. In the days after the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the New York Giants, members of the AL.com staff shared their thoughts on the event through a series of questions.

The game itself was a little tedious with all the pitching changes — and the extra time between innings for all the in-game interviews and other special presentations only added to that, pushing it well past three hours in an era when MLB games average around 2 ½ hours with the pitch clock. Obviously, both teams were trying to win the game above all else, and that was sometimes at odds with the fans’ best interests.

3. There were a lot of people from San Francisco and New York in town. Every single one of them had a great time and had positive things to say about Birmingham.
