Actress and talk show host Ricki Lake shared her gratitude for the outpouring of support following the devastating wildfires that destroyed her Malibu home. She received a particularly touching gift from her birth doula, who provided copies of lost photo albums documenting her son's home birth.
Ricki Lake expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support she received following the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that claimed her home earlier this month. Particularly poignant was the gift received from her birth doula , Jennifer Lickson, who offered copies of precious photo albums documenting the home birth of her son, Owen, in 2001.
Lake admitted the loss of these albums was especially painful, as while she had filmed the birth for her documentary 'The Business of Being Born,' the tangible collection of photographs held a special significance. \'It’s like the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me. I can’t believe I’m going to have those back and be able to look back on it,' Lake shared on Instagram, acknowledging the film's existence but emphasizing the irreplaceable value of the photo album. 'It’s the little things that are the biggest things of all,' she added. \Lake further detailed the impact of the fire, describing her experience as bringing her to her knees. While grateful for the support she received from various companies and friends, she confessed to feeling overwhelmed by the need for assistance, noting her independent nature and self-reliance. The loss of cherished mementos, including signed scripts from 'Hairspray' and family photos, compounded the emotional toll. She also shared her belief that the city, despite preventative measures, was ill-prepared for the scale of the disaster. 'I can’t even wrap my head around what happened and where we fell short ... it’s a very strange time to be alive. I really am grateful to everyone who reached out to me,' she stated.
