With the Republican Party gaining the majority in the Senate and White House, the leader to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell will wield a lot of influence over the legislation passed. Scott is currently facing off against Sens. John Thune and John Cornyn to be McConnell’s successor.“I think everybody realizes that we need to make a change. So the question’s going to be who is going to make sure we get these things done,” Scott said on.
McConnell’s senate term expires in 2026. The Kentucky senator notoriously did not help fund Scott’s reelection campaign. This is Scott’s second attempt to become majority leader after challenging McConnell two years ago.
