Rick Pitino has made plenty of recruiting pitches recently, so it only seems fitting that he’s now throwing literal ones.

Before Tuesday’s Yankees-Mets Subway Series opener at Citi Field, the new St. John’s head coach threw out the first pitch to Cavaliers star — and noted Mets fan — Donovan Mitchell.

Pitino’s practice didn’t exactly pay off, as his pitch skipped into Mitchell before it even reached home plate. It has been a whirlwind few months for Pitino after he left Iona for St. John’s less than three months ago.
