With St. John's about to meet with Cameron Boozer and the Blue Devils, coach Pitino shared his hilarious strategy to stop him.
For the first time since 1999, the St. John's Red Storm will play in the Sweet 16. However, they're in for a tough battle, as they'll have to contain Cameron Boozer and the top-seeded Boozer has been one of the best players in the nation this season, averaging 22.
4 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game on 56 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc. That's why even a coaching legend like Rick Pitino knows there's only so much anybody can do to contain him. When asked about his gameplan to neutralize Cameron, Pitino claimed that he'sBoozer has been in the mix to be a top-3 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, and he'll look to reassure his case in the Big Dance after A.J. Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson have already been ruled out of contention. Pitino, like the rest of the nation, has kept a close eye on him, and knows he just has too many ways to hurt defenses: “Well, he’s playing like a point forward,” Pitino said. “He’s lethal now outside and I mean the schedule that they played and the people he has had to go against has been really remarkable. I mean, almost everybody in the NCAA they played, and he’s been remarkable against all those teams, whether it’s Texas, Michigan, Florida, you name it, Michigan State. He’s played them all. So he’s quite a basketball player.” Boozer, son of former NBA player Carlos Boozer, earned first-team All-American, ACC Player and Freshman of the Year honors, and also won the Oscar Robertson Trophy as the best Men's National Player of the year. He's also a favorite to win both the Wooden and Naismith Awards, but he's only focused on taking another national championship to Durham.
