This was a fun setup, but the Freaky Friday-style “body swap” premise was parodied in episodes of Family Guy, Futurama, Big Mouth, Wizards of Waverly Place, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia long before Rick and Morty tried it. Even Dan Harmon’s previous show, Community, had an episode toying with this trope .
The final act of “The Jerrick Trap,” in which Rick and Jerry merge bodies into one big super-being, initially seems to put a fresh spin on the “body swap” premise. But as soon as it becomes clear that Rick is trapped in this new body and wants to be free, it just rehashes the “Tiny Rick” storyline from season 2, episode 7, “Big Trouble in Little Sanchez.” “Air Force Wong” repeats three previous Rick and Morty storylines.
