Morty looking worried next to Rick smiling with blue eyes in Rick and Morty
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Rick and Morty art has reimagined the series as a retro live-action/animated hybrid version of itself, something that proves to be all too unsettling. The animated comedy is no stranger to making its audience feel uncomfortable. Dark jokes have formed a core part of the series since the start, with later moments such as Rick killing Rick Prime in season 7 adding more serious moments to the show.
The images reimagine the show with most characters becoming realisitic, live-action versions of themselves. However, Rick retains the exact same look as he does in the cartoon, while Morty's facial features are also exaggerated. This makes the new interpretation slightly scary, as it blends the look of the original into live-action in a surrealist way.
A wholly live-action version of the comedy would be difficult to pull off, considering the number of alien creatures and uniquely-designed characters throughout the series. However, a blend of real actors and sets with animation could offset this, giving the show a unique style that adds a level of surrealism to the humor. As dejaview.tv's art reveals, though, the result could also end up unsettling, making the show too aesthetically uncanny to work in the blended medium.
However, such a version of Rick and Morty could play into that unsettling nature, embracing a more surrealist humor to align with the new look of the show. While it would give the live-action/animated hybrid a different feeling from the original show, it could also be what makes such a show possible in the first place. Even though some elements of the show would need to change to fit its new, blended medium, there's still a chance such a wild version of the animated comedy works in reality.
