The person experiencing mental health crisis was rescued Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
All lanes on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge were reopened shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday, roughly 17 hours after an emergency halted eastbound traffic, officials said.
The bridge was closed around 2 p.m. Friday, when emergency crews began negotiating with a person experiencing a mental health crisis and threatening to jump off the lower deck of the bridge. The person requested to come back up Saturday morning and was rescued by Southern Marin Fire Department, according to the California Highway Patrol.
As negotiators worked throughout Friday evening to resolve the crisis, state traffic monitors showed heavy congestion had backed up on northbound Highway 101 and Interstate 580 in San Rafael as drivers navigated around the closure.The person requested to come back up and was rescued by Southern Marin Fire Department.
