A solo driver was taken to a hospital after he was struck by gunfire over the weekend on Interstate 580, authorities said.
In a statement Sunday night, a California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Division spokesman said dispatchers learned of a crash just before 1 a.m. Sunday in Interstate 580 lanes near Central Avenue.Soon after, Richmond police spoke with CHP officers, telling them a male suffering from a gunshot wound had shown up at a nearby home to seek aid.
The male fold police his shooting had happened on the freeway. He was flown by CHP helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment of his injury. His condition was not available Sunday night. Detectives with the CHP’s investigative services unit handling the case did not share any motives or word of any suspects in custody, and did not release any suspect or associated vehicle description.Contact George Kelly at 408-859-5180.
